hi

1 min read
So, it's been a while. I forgot this even existed, to be frank.

Maybe I'll do something about this in the future.

I don't know who's out there, but hello. How are you?

This beat is fuckin dank as hell, holy shit. Late night music making is going to be the death of me, but I love every damn second of it.

Contrary to what major news outlets may be telling you, I am without a doubt not dead or dying.

So, I suppose that I will probably start actually doing artsy shit again, seeing as school is certainly in my favour in terms of difficulty this term in particular. No real hard classes to be seen, with a lovely large break in the middle of my day for either work or other shit.

Speaking of work, I'm now working at the Liberty Center One tech/data center near my home. Good work, pays nice. I get to have some hands-on work experience with service providers and servers in general. Getting to see the backbone that is our internet on a small scale is both interesting and absolutely terrifying. Holy hell, this shit is so goddamn patchwork most people would not believe the amount of upkeep that goes into updating legacy systems (like the internet) without having a single second of down time. Man alive, that shit is hard.

Also also, if you follow my soundcloud, you may have noticed that I suddenly awoke like some great musical beast, and by that most of my recent music could be considered synonymous with the deep growling of a bear. Take your pick on interpretation, but if you like jazz and or funk, or even just want some nice relaxing ambient music with rain sounds to boot, head over to my soundcloud or my bandcamp. You can just google me and they'll show up pretty high.

I've started taking to watercolours again, as you may have noticed. I wanted to actually do some physical art, seeing as I'm not terribly good at much other than things like graphite sketches and shit like that. But, my brief foray into watercolours has so far yielded relatively positive results. People seem to like it, and I must admit that I find it rather pretty.

If any of you play TF2, hit me up. Apart from Kameron, I don't really have a buddy to play TF2 with, and although battle-medic chain combos are incredibly fun, only two people is never fun. Especially with auto-balance. So just lemme know, and we can start hitting up servers as an unstoppable force of pub-stomp.

I think that about wraps up all important things from my end. Apart from that, I've completely upgraded my computer, keeping only a single harddrive from the last computer. I've turned my original rig into a dedicated server, and that seems to be running very well. Well, as well as it can what with the sporadic power outages and me being to lazy to setup/test Wake on Lan (WoL).

So, if you need anything, you all know how to get a hold of me. I hope to be back to posting shit every week or so. It's always fun to do that.

Love, Dylan.

Shite shite shite. Shite.

I just like the sound of that word. Such a fun word, especially when done in a proper accent!

Welp, it has been a little while since any of you heard from me, seeing as all I've been doing is the occasional upload to DA in the form of (primarily) poetry and shitty SFM freezeframes (besides the cover art). So, to bring you up to speed, I am not dead, I am not significantly ill, and I am rather happy. End of that line of inquiry.

I am, however, super psyched for the Midwest Media Expo! A little convention here in Detroit, it will feature quite a few big names in the media entertainment industry, such as Ellen McLain! Maddie and I are gonna go, her as Bee (from Bee and Puppycat) and myself as the Engineer (from tf2).

Speaking of TF2, HOLY SHIT. I need to stop playing that game as much. I've been good this week, as for not playing it excessively, but HOLY SHIT. Shit is addicting.

Also also, me and the guys (in my band) finally got together again to record some shit, and we came up with a very different sounding sort of music. Kind of like garage, but with a funk influence. You can find that here: drp-band.bandcamp.com/track/co…. Good track to just chill out to, not much there but relaxation. Aaaaah.

Also also also, what do you think of me uploading all that poetry? It's a bit out of place for me to write, as I am not much more than an architectural sketcher (and a shit one at that) and a musician (which has no place on DA)? I try to write what's on my mind into poetry, but I don't think I'm terribly good at it. Whadda you think?

I think that about wraps all this up. I don't have any other updates in regards to art or music, so I will bid you all a fond farewell.

-Love, Dylan

Fuck me, this cold/sinus combo is going to be my demise.

But, on with life.

I am sick again, as per usual. Wasn't an issue till last night, then I fell to shit. Oh well. This sort of thing
becomes a more or less monthly cycle for me.

In happier news, I received just about all of my inbound packages. I've got my brand new Blue Yeti microphone
on Tuesday, along with my replica one ring to rule them all, which I am currently wearing. The Yeti truly is one
of the best microphones out there, and I can't wait to start recording again. The ring is pretty snazzy, even if
it is only tungsten. :)

Now, about TF2 mapping. I am currently working along side my buddy Kameron (xseanx123x for those who don't know him. Cool guy)
to bring the TF2 community a Bioshock-themed KOTH map. The entire thing takes place in three relatively large
towers, all done in my classic art deco style (if you haven't noticed I have a penchant for the deco 30s). I'm
currently doing the work on geometry and such (seeing as I generally work with the period archeticture more) and
Kameron is doing an amazing job with textures (yay! Cause I'm shit at it.)

For now, we are going to be using stock TF2 and HL2 textures, with the exception of one fully finished (well, almost)
granite texture for the walls. I will be also transposing the HL2 textures to a more TF2 style and feel, as the two
games obviously have a serious dichotomy in style. I'll probably end up digitally repainting all the HL2 textures used
to give them that sort of watercolored/cartoonish look. Should be easy enough. Then Kameron can swoop in and actually
make them look decent, tileable and formatted correctly.

In other news, progress on my custom game engine continues. I've got the tile and mapping systems just about fully
fleshed out, meaning that the level loader is next. Following that, the game should be at the very least functional for
very limited tasks. I will work on AI and scripting later, and porting after the base Windows release is stable and out
for reals.

So, tl;dr: I'm sick, I've got a really nice mic and a cool LOTR ring, I'm working with Kameron on a TF2 map themed
after Rapture, and I've almost got the Radiation engine to a stable build.

All in all a good week. Hot damn.

Alright. So I am currently working on the fourth (that's right, motherfuckin FOURTH) iteration of a top-down, tile-based game engine.

So far the project has been plagued with constant memory buffer overflows via the irritating SFML libraries and a poorly-written and severely
outdated tutorial explaining how to even begin coding this damnable engine. Bastards think they can code, write a damn tutorial, and it is ultimately
shite.

So I've taken this matter into my own hands.

I am starting over, and have managed to get a basic tiling system implemented and updated from my previous test games. My last rogue-like tile-based
system was the moveguy engine, named after a calculator program I created in the eighth grade.

Now, I've always used Allegro, and luckily enough they have updated their framework to make things easier to access (in terms of system functions) and
somehow have made it even easier to blit bitmaps to the screen. Beautiful!

So, if anyone wants to try this shit out when I get it stable, I will hopefully be shipping it with all the necessary software to map and script for it sometime in
the next three or so months. I want to see if anyone can make something decent out of what will inevitably be a large pile of garbage.

Other than that, starting my new courses. I'm a lucky bastard, no classes before 1:00 in the afternoon this entire semester. Hell yeah.

And aside from that, I've also started working with SFM a lot more lately. Making little animations and stuff. I'm planning on doing dramatic readings of
bad fan-fiction or crappypastas and putting them into the mix, sort of like this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnSWvi…

Ah, the joy of life.

P.S. (this is getting unbearably long) If anyone wants to play TF2 with me, hit me up! I've playing a metric shit ton(ne) of TF2 lately. I do love me some engee/soldier.
